The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit kicked off on Nov. 20 in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province.

Feng Xiaoyun, Vice President of Cisco Greater China, General Manager of Cisco Hong Kong, Macao, and South China, and also the Global Youth Leader of the 2023 WIC, shared her perspective on internet development in China and Cisco's key role in the GBA.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Internet Development Forum was held on Nov. 21, themed "Integration and Innovation: Leading the Future with Wisdom." Guests highlighted governance innovation, economic innovation, and media innovation in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Cisco explores cooperation in the GBA

Cisco, an American internet pioneer that invented the router, has been in China for 30 years, and its business has reached thousands of households with internet connections.

"Our business in the GBA is really about responding to the call of the State that 'backed by the motherland, connecting the world,'" Feng said. The cooperation in the GBA includes the mainland, Hong Kong, and around the world.

As an international metropolis, Hong Kong has diverse innovations in fields like international standards. Cisco's business in Hong Kong includes the implementation of large and early AI projects, collaborations in automotive industry globalization, quick transactions in the financial industry, and some data centers.

Seize the new opportunities of the GBA

Leveraging the geographical advantages of the Greater Bay Area, which encompasses four languages, three different legal systems, and three different currencies, enterprises must be able to capture the latest technological innovations from the mainland while using Hong Kong and Macao as windows to observe global industry trends.

When expanding into the GBA market, enterprises can receive support from domestic resources. At the same time, the diversity, richness, competitiveness, and complexity of the overseas market, as well as the integration into international standards, pose significant challenges. Thus, the projects that are implemented and achieve results in the GBA will have strong feasibility and replicability during the 'going global' process.

Future cooperation on the internet industry in the GBA

"For our entire internet industry, the GBA is a precious test field and starting point to go global and get into China," Feng added. "To get these global technology and financial partnerships to enter China, our Greater Bay Area is a very great first stop, as we say the 'Gateway.'"
