The 24-km-long cross-sea ShenZhong link opened to traffic on June 30. GDToday followed Mr. Klaus Zenkel, Vice President of the European Chamber of Commerce in China and Chair of the South China Chapter, on a business trip to Zhongshan.
Mr. Zenkel was enthusiastic about passing the ShenZhong Link for the first time, describing it as a pivotal development connecting Jiuwei Community in Shenzhen's Bao'an District to Zhongshan. This connectivity is already spurring upgrades in Jiuwei, potentially unlocking new business opportunities, including easier access for his company IMEDCO, a Swiss healthcare company located nearby.
Reflecting on the project's scope, Mr. Zenkel highlighted its impressive speed and the structure designed to accommodate large vessels navigating the bustling Pearl River Delta. He attributed China's success in completing such mega-projects to abundant resources and unparalleled efficiency in construction.
Mr. Zenkel also noted the link's broader impacts, particularly on tourism. Anticipating increased day tours from Hong Kong SAR to Zhongshan, and the western bank of the Pearl River Delta, he emphasized the link's role in reducing travel times and enhancing visitor experiences, which can foster regional integration and economic collaboration.
