“The number of big global companies investing in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is really surprising. I think the business environment here is very positive,” said Rupert Hoogewerf, Hurun Report Chairman and Chief Researcher, when sharing with GDToday at the 2022 Global Investment Promotion Conference for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) on December 21.
Currently, the majority of foreign businesses are investing in automobiles, health care, consumer goods and electronics in GBA. For instance, there is Volkswagen in Foshan, Toyota in Guangzhou as well as Shell and ExxonMobil in Huizhou, and Walmart headquartered in Shenzhen.
“These very influential companies are leading their way and they're doing so much in the GBA that's going to influence a lot of other companies to come as well, including the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) along the whole supply chain,” said Rupert.
He announced his Hurun Top 100 List of China's Foreign-invested Enterprises in 2022 and the Guide to Investment in the GBA at the Conference.
“When you look at the investments of some of these big companies are putting into the GBA, they are phenomenal. To be able to attract them to engage and invest is great for the competitive advantages of GBA,” he said.
According to the report, the sales of the top 100 enterprises in China reached 7.6 trillion RMB last year, equivalent to 7% of China's GDP, and more than 90% of the top 100 enterprises have launched in-depth cooperation in GBA.
During the Conference, he and 15 others were appointed as Guangdong’s second batch of global investment consultants.
“The Conference is a fantastic opportunity to present really well to the rest of the world what the advantages of the GBA are,” he added.
With regards to the unique advantage of GBA, he stressed that it is multifaceted, including the superior geographical location, strong government support, rich resources, well-developed industrial chains, quantity and quality talents and more.
