HK Youth in GBA | Mak Yuhon: Guangzhou helped me make the first pot of gold

In a small office with only three seats in the Hong Kong and Macau Youth Home in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, Mak Yuhon, founder of Guangzhou Zhihong New Retail Technology Co., Ltd., is having a brainstorming session with colleagues.

In March and September this year, his two online stores opened one after another. One mainly sells skin care and cosmetics imported from Korea and Australia, and the other is an exclusive agent of Turkish personal care products. Mak Yuhon said: "With the help of big data analysis, we have done precision marketing. Now our average daily sales can reach more than 4000 yuan."

In fact, this is the second time for Mak to start a business in the Greater Bay Area. He first came to Guangzhou in 2006, and he was just a novice in the clothing industry by then. With his resources of factories in the mainland and English ability, he cooperated with foreign brands to run a jeans business. Although he only had a few thousand yuan in his pocket when he first came to Guangzhou, Mak’s business quickly went smoothly. “When the business went well, we could earn 80,000 to 100,000 yuan a month. It helped me make the first pot of gold and buy an apartment in Hong Kong", he said.

Speaking of entrepreneurial experience in the Greater Bay Area, Mak said: “I think it’s important to do market research. It’s important to search for industry data and analyze industry prospects in advance. On-site visits are even more essential. Only when a project is worth doing can you have the confidence to start."
