The Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage is an important transportation channel in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is a crucial part of the westward extension of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and also a vital traffic link to the western Guangdong region. It began trial operation with free passage on December 11, 2024. The entire route is approximately 31.1 kilometers long and consists of a combination of bridges and roads. The independent bridge section from Gaolan Port Hub to Chixi East is about 17.8 kilometers long.
The passage connects Zhuhai and Jiangmen, significantly reducing the travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes. Data shows that during the Spring Festival travel rush, the passage saw an average daily traffic flow of over 20,000 vehicles, with the peak occurring on February 2 (the fifth day of the Chinese New Year), when the traffic volume reached 33,200 vehicles.
