Zhuhai has unveiled its plans to prioritize cooperation with Macao and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, as outlined in its 2025 government work report.

To bolster economic ties, Zhuhai plans to enhance industrial collaboration with Hengqin, focusing on cross-border supply chains and innovative business models. The city also aims to develop Hengqin's "four new industries": traditional Chinese medicine, conventions and exhibitions, financial technology, and high-end manufacturing.

Infrastructure development also remains a key focus. Zhuhai will accelerate the construction of major transportation projects, including the Hengqin Mangzhou Tunnel and the high-speed rail link between Zhuhai Hezhou Station and Hengqin. At the same time, Zhuhai plans to deepen cooperation with Macao's airport, improve connectivity between Gaolan Port and Macao, and work on developing a cargo center on the west bank of the Pearl River Delta.

On the social front, Zhuhai is working to align public services with Macao's standards, particularly in education, healthcare, and social security. These efforts aim to make Hengqin more accessible and attractive to Macao residents seeking employment and living opportunities across the border.

In 2024, cross-border travel and trade between Zhuhai and its neighboring regions surged, with the city's ports recording over 200 million passenger trips, a 22% year-on-year increase. Additionally, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge saw a notable rise in activity, handling 5.56 million vehicle crossings, up 70.4%, and facilitating 232.9 billion yuan ($32.3 billion) in import and export value, an 11.3% increase.

As the city looks to strengthen its economic growth, Zhuhai has set its sights on a 6% rise in GDP and a 5% boost in foreign trade for 2025.
