According to a press conference during the third session of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress on January 15, nine Guangdong manufacturing enterprises entered the Fortune Global 500 list, and the province's chain-style digital transformation in manufacturing has been recognized by the State Council and promoted nationwide.

Guangdong Province, one of the manufacturing powerhouses in China, is taking comprehensive measures to promote the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry, aiming to enhance its global competitiveness and foster new growth drivers.

At the press conference, Tu Gaokun, director of the provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, outlined the strategies and achievements in advancing the manufacturing sector.

Sound manufacturing base

Guangdong boasts a complete industrial system with all 31 major categories of manufacturing industries, making it a comprehensive manufacturing hub and providing a solid foundation for industrial chain innovation and the cultivation of new quality productive forces.

The province's manufacturing value-added accounts for about one-eighth of the national total, and the industrial sector contributes over 50% to GDP growth. With 73,900 large-scale industrial enterprises, Guangdong leads the nation, representing about one-seventh of the national total.

Optimized industrial ecosystem

The province's industrial ecosystem is continuously improving, providing a solid foundation for innovation and the development of new productive forces. Eight national-level advanced manufacturing clusters have been established, further strengthening the province's industrial base. Twenty strategic industrial clusters contribute 40% to the province's GDP, and eight of them have reached a trillion-yuan scale.

Future plans for manufacturing development

Looking ahead, Guangdong will focus on developing new productive forces to build a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as the backbone.

The province will emphasize the industrialization of frontier technologies, particularly those with explosive growth potential, such as biomanufacturing, quantum technology, embodied intelligence, and 6G.

Building on the eight national-level advanced manufacturing clusters mentioned earlier, Guangdong aims to create several world-class industrial clusters.

Moreover, Guangdong will harness new productive forces to accelerate the overall efficiency of industrial science and technology innovation. To enhance the collaborative innovation system of the manufacturing industry, the province plans to improve the manufacturing innovation network and establish more national and provincial pilot-scale production and application validation platforms, enterprise technology centers, and public service platforms for industrial technology infrastructure.

These initiatives reflect Guangdong's commitment to leveraging its manufacturing advantages to drive innovation and development, fostering new growth drivers, and enhancing its position in the global manufacturing landscape. Through these efforts, Guangdong aims to create a more favorable business environment and promote sustainable economic growth.
