The Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation elected the fifth leadership body, including the new governing board and supervisory board, in Guangzhou on January 6.
Huang Kunming, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, sent congratulations to the council, encouraging all council members to leverage their respective strengths and expertise to make a steadfast contribution to the GBA and "better unleash the multiplier effect of the strong collaboration within the GBA."
John KC Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, delivered a video speech at the meeting, stating that the Council has successfully established a high-quality platform, significantly promoting the integrated development of the GBA. He believed the Council would help extend Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation into broader areas.
Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, sent a congratulatory letter, noting that Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation is essential to Macao's development. He believed that the Council would continue to uphold its purpose and make new and more significant contributions to promoting the GBA construction.
During the meeting, Huang Ningsheng was elected as the president of the Council.
Over 370 representatives participated in the meeting, including senior officials from the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao SAR governments.
As a non-profit organization, the Council aims to promote institutional innovation, facilitate regional coordinated development, and provide advice and suggestions for the high-quality economic, social, and cultural development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) through non-government exchanges and cooperation.
Established in 2009, the Council has developed over 2,000 members. It has become an essential platform for people from Hong Kong and Macao SARs to participate in the construction of the GBA, integrate into the country's overall development, and engage in the "Belt and Road" initiative.
