Starting January 5, 2025, the new regular high-speed train services will be introduced to link the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with the Chengdu-Chongqing region. The number of high-speed trains on this route will increase by 16.7%, bringing the total to 35 trains, further strengthening ties between Southern and Southwestern China.

Key improvements include upgraded train services, such as the transformation of some Guangzhou to Guiyang/Guangyuan trains into faster "G" trains, cutting travel times by about one hour. One notable change is that the Guangzhou South to Mianyang D1812 train will be extended to start from Shenzhen, and will be upgraded to the Shenzhen North to Guangyuan G2244 high-speed train.

This is the first time since January 1, 2015, when the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area launched regular high-speed trains to Beijing and Shanghai, that regular services will be added to the Chengdu-Chongqing direction.

Additionally, slow train services will see expanded routes, making it easier to travel to more destinations, including Dazhou, Nanchong, and Guangyuan, in the region.
