Guangdong has ranked first in China's regional innovation capability for eight consecutive years, according to a press conference held by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology on December 18.

In the first three quarters of this year, the added value of advanced manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing increased by 6.9% and 11.6% respectively, accounting for 56.4% and 31.5% of the above-scale industries.

The dominant position of enterprises in technological innovation has been further consolidated. All large industrial enterprises with a main business revenue of more than 500 million yuan have established research and development institutions.

Approximately 90% of scientific research institutions, scientific researchers, research and development funding, and invention patent applications in Guangdong originate from enterprises.

Xiao Zhenyu, Deputy Director-General of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, introduced that Guangdong has been approved to establish five national manufacturing innovation centers, including the national centers for innovation in printing and flexible displays, high-performance medical devices, 5G mid- and high- frequency devices, ultra-high-definition video, and the national and local collaborative innovation center for new energy storage. The number of such centers ranks among the top in China.

Guangdong has also established 33 provincial manufacturing innovation centers, including embodied intelligent robots, covering 15 strategic industrial clusters in 12 cities.

As of now, nine Guangdong manufacturing enterprises have entered the world's top 500, and over 45,000 industrial enterprises have undergone technological transformations in the past five years, with 42,000 above-scale industrial enterprises undergoing digital transformations.

In the field of biomedicine, Guangzhou has implemented support policies for the world's top biomedical projects, providing "one-on-one" support for projects led by globally influential masters and strategic scientists, with a maximum support amount of 5 billion yuan.

Focusing on becoming a globally leading advanced manufacturing center, Shenzhen has released a list of 73 "City + AI" application scenarios, including public services, autonomous driving, and low-altitude economics. Shenzhen has promoted the aggregated development of six international industry and standards organizations, such as the World WLAN Application Alliance, and integrated technological and product innovations in Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into the global innovation chain.

The conference announced the official launch of the exhibition event of Guangdong manufacturers' new skills. The event will focus on showcasing the innovation achievements of Guangdong's manufacturing enterprises, especially new sets of equipment, new batches of materials, new versions of software, and new products.

Jaten Robot Automation from Foshan introduced its new unmanned ground vehicle, which can carry a load of 1,000 kg, with larger tonnage available upon customization. The vehicle is equipped with autonomous driving capabilities, reaching a maximum speed of 30 km/h to ensure efficient logistics transportation. It features hydraulic braking and parking, physical collision prevention, and automatic obstacle avoidance functions, making it suitable for use in busy manufacturing factories and large logistics centers.
