On November 24th, 67 professional cyclists from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao embarked on a competition at the 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Road Cycling Race. After more than five hours of competition, Hao Ran, a rider from Inner Mongolia, emerged victorious with a time of 5 hours, 15 minutes, and 18 seconds.

"Riding across the 60-kilometer-long sea bridge for the first time was truly awe-inspiring," Hao Ran said. "It felt very open and spacious, and being there made me appreciate the greatness of nature." He noted that the lack of shelters on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge posed a significant challenge due to crosswinds, adding that the unique experience of racing across multiple regions left a lasting impression on him.

The men's individual time trial, a first-of-its-kind event spanning the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, included a stretch across the iconic Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The 230-kilometer race route comprised 160.7 kilometers in Zhuhai (including a 60.6-kilometer round trip on the bridge and 45.2 kilometers in Hengqin), 55.8 kilometers in Hong Kong, and 13.5 kilometers in Macao.

This groundbreaking event marked the first-ever cycling race across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. According to Zhou Wei, Director of the Border Control Division at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Border Control Point, the race utilized mobile inspection facilities for customs clearance, leveraging data-driven and information technologies such as BeiDou satellite positioning, drone tracking, and RFID technology to track the movements of participants and vehicles in real-time. These measures ensured convenient customs clearance services for all involved.
