On November 4, a joint research laboratory was announced to be established to facilitate cooperation between Guangzhou's Nansha District and Hong Kong in veterinary medicine.

The laboratory is the result of a cooperation agreement signed by leaders from the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GDAAS), Nansha District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on the same day. It will allow students from CityUHK's veterinary medicine programme to participate in joint research in Nansha District, leveraging the advantages of Nansha's advanced agricultural and livestock industries.

In addition, an internship and entrepreneurship base will also be established in Nansha to provide CityUHK veterinary students with internships and entrepreneurship opportunities, enabling them to gain practical experience in animal health, food safety, and public health.

"CityUHK has embarked on an array of partnerships with Nansha District, and now we are taking another significant step towards fostering academic and research collaboration in the GBA," said Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK at the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement.

The joint effort of CityUHK and Guangdong to nurture talents is not new. In September, CityUHK's campus in Dongguan was officially opened, and it now educates over 500 students.

"The collaboration between the two places, focusing on the field of veterinary medicine, will promote technical exchange and talent cooperation, facilitating the integration of Hong Kong youth into the rest of the GBA," Liu Xiaotong, deputy head of the Nansha District Government remarked at the signing ceremony.
