Science popularization and education program for Macao students officially launched in Hengqin

On September 23, the “Science Education Popularization Program for Macao Students - Ecological Study Tour in Hengqin for Sixth Grades” was launched at Hengqin National Wetland Park.

Co-organized by the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao SAR, and the Macao Science Center, the program invites sixth-grade students from Macao primary schools to delve into scientific concepts and conduct experiments, all within the natural surroundings of Hengqin National Wetland Park. The hands-on approach aims to deepen their understanding through direct interaction with the environment.

The program, designed in line with Macao’s primary and secondary school science and technology curriculum guidelines, supports schools in offering learning experiences beyond the classroom.

Sixth-grade students will focus on the theme of biodiversity conservation, with visits to Hengqin National Wetland Park to explore wetland ecosystems, mangroves, and local wildlife.

Additionally, students will learn about nature-based solutions (NbS), emphasizing the importance of sustainable development. The program aims to enhance their scientific literacy, and problem-solving skills, and foster a passion for technology and environmental protection.

In July, Macao Science Center established its first educational base in Hengqin National Wetland Park. This collaboration aims to integrate science education resources from both regions and jointly promote science popularization.
