International experts gather to discuss the future of AI in Guangzhou

The two-day 11th IPP (Institute of Public Policy) International Conference kicked off on Saturday in Guangzhou. The Institute of Public Policy (IPP) at the South China University of Technology is a national research institute dedicated to the creation of a China-specific knowledge system.

Featuring the theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future World, this year's conference gathered dozens of AI experts, renowned scholars, and industry elites from relevant AI domains worldwide.

They will analyze the opportunities and challenges brought by the development of AI from the perspectives of technology, ethics, policy, and social risks, and explore the multiple roles of AI in promoting economic and social transformation.

In the welcome remark, Prof. Zheng Yongnian, chairman of the IPP Academic Committee, noted that as the core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI is affecting human production, life, and even thinking with unprecedented breadth and depth.

Currently, the development of AI has brought in many unknown areas. The conference aims to invite experts from different backgrounds to discuss and look forward to a series of topics related to AI and the future development of human society.

"We are now in the AI era, which is actually a combination of the three major advances of human civilization," noted Prof. Hwang Kai, winner of the 10th Wu Wenjun AI Natural Science Award and Emeritus Chair Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen).

In his keynote speech, Prof. Hwang analyzed the latest progress of General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) in the fields of robot embodied intelligence and intelligent manufacturing from a cutting-edge perspective.

He pointed out that, compared with humans, AI has stronger perception capabilities. With the development of embodied intelligence such as automotive robots, industrial robots, and home assistant robots, the future of human society will undergo tremendous changes. If it can be used for peace, social development, and medical and health purposes, AI will create great benefits for mankind.

The organizer has designed five panels: AI Empowering Economy and Society, AI Governance and an Open World, International Competition in the AI Era, AI Development in Asia, as well as AI and Social Risk.

In the roundtable discussion on the theme of "Towards an AI Industrial Revolution?" on Saturday, guests from leading AI enterprises such as Tencent and Baidu jointly analyzed the transformative potential of AI from multiple dimensions and deeply explored the relationship between AI and the new industrial revolution.
