The first batch of approximately 20 tonnes of fresh Malaysian-imported durians arrived at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) on Monday.

On Monday morning, a debut ceremony for the Malaysian Musang King durian was held at a fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Guangzhou, which received 4 tonnes of fresh durians at the same time.

At the event, Mohamad Haris Abdul Latiff, Consul (Trade) of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, stated that the Chinese people love Malaysian Musang King durians for their unique flavor. He noted that more Malaysian durians would enter the Chinese market in the future to further promote cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries.

Ye Canjiang, General Manager of the Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, lauded the quality of Malaysian durians. After the first batch of imported durians, more Malaysian fresh durian will enter the Chinese market, allowing more Chinese consumers to taste the high-quality durian from Malaysia.

It is introduced that fresh Malaysian durians adhere to the principle of natural ripening during harvesting and no artificial ripening treatment to ensure plumper durians with a sweet flavor.

Notably, the year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. In June this year, China and Malaysia signed an agreement to allow fresh Malaysian durians to enter the Chinese market. Previously, they could only be imported in the form of whole frozen durian or processed products.

So far, Malaysia has become the fourth Southeast Asian country that can export fresh durian to the Chinese market after Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Chinese consumers will be able to taste fresh Malaysian durian stored at room temperature, further enriching their options.
