Equipment renewal and trade-in of old consumer goods: a brand-new platform launched

On August 27, the "Yue Huan Xin" brand platform, guided by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, was launched in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. 

The platform aims at facilitating large-scale equipment renewal and the exchange of old consumer goods for new ones, which is a significant strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee.

As the first official brand platform at the provincial level for equipment renewal and replacing old consumer goods with new ones (known as "Two New") in China, and the only officially designated platform for the "Two New" work in Guangdong Province, it is guided by the government, professionally managed by relevant companies, open to all, and free to use.

It is expected that the platform will stimulate market vitality, lead the trend of green consumption, and promote the recycling of resources, which is an important step in overall high-quality development. In the future, the integrated platform could be accessed through its app or WeChat gadget.

Ai Xuefeng, director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, introduced that the platform will be provided free of charge to all government departments, enterprises, and institutions, and social organizations that meet the requirements.

Qiu Haibin is the recycling resources project manager of one of the partner companies, Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Development Eastern Service Co. Ltd, which participates in the operation of the platform through collecting and dealing with old equipment or consumer goods. He noted that through the launch of such an integrated platform, intermediate links in the traditional recycling process and thus the cost induced will be significantly reduced, and that a single integrated outlet is much more convenient for all sides compared to multiple scattered ones. The industrial chain in recycling and facilitating old consumer goods for new ones also produces tax income and more job opportunities for local citizens, adding to their income as well.

Under the guide of the provincial government, the platform provides more professional services by cooperating with qualified companies. Safety and sanitary issues that come with recycling can also be better prevented, and the process better standardized.

Recycling old equipment, consumer goods, and more reduces waste and excessive exploitation of the ever-decreasing resources of our planet. Limiting exploitation and stepping up the recycling of old equipment and goods are irreversible trends that are vital for environmental protection and sustainable development. Qiu Haibin estimated that in the future, the ratio of recycled materials usage in manufacturing may increase from the current 25% to 50%, or even higher.

Since the beginning of this year, Guangdong Province has actively responded to the national deployment of the "Two New" works, promptly introduced relevant policies, established a provincial "Two New" work team, and vigorously promoted the implementation of large-scale equipment renewal and the exchange of old consumer goods for new ones.

From January to July of this year, the investment in equipment renewal in the industrial field of Guangdong Province exceeded 230 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of over 25% to demonstrate achievements in the "Two New" work.
