Inside an apartment at the Paris Olympic Village, several accordion stools made in Shenzhen have been placed. With a height of 42 centimeters, these cardboard stools can be folded into the shape of a book, making them easily recyclable after the Olympics.

This stool is one of the eco-friendly products designed and manufactured by Shibazhi (Chinese: 十八纸), a local home furnishing brand in the Longgang district of Shenzhen.

Focusing on the design of accordion-style and environmentally-friendly furniture, Shibazhi has won the Red Dot Awards ("The Oscars of Design") twice and the iF Product Design Award four times.

In recent years, the company has been constantly exploring the application scenarios of its products, which were showcased in Guangzhou K11 Art Mall, Shenzhen Fashion Week, and Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.

According to Gen Yutong, the design director of Shibazhi, the cardboard they used is 100 percent degradable. "It is a huge honor to showcase our product in a global event like the Paris Olympic Games. And it also motivates us to make more efforts to manufacture more eco-friendly products that bring more convenience to people."

Around 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees and the Refugee Olympic Team will compete at the upcoming Olympic Games. Most athletes will be housed in the Paris Olympic Village, a 54-hectare site located by the Seine River.

The Village mainly employs innovative eco-friendly construction techniques, and is committed to a long-term legacy as a vibrant community post-Games.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11. The Paralympic Games will then run from August 28 until September 8.
