Hengqin unveils new measures to boost hotel industry with expanded range of buildings for conversion

Hengqin has extended the range of buildings eligible for temporary conversion into hotels as part of its latest measures released on July 4th, aimed at further promoting development in the hotel industry.

Previously limited to vacant commercial and office properties, the eligibility now includes completed buildings designated for commercial, business, cultural, creative, high-tech and scientific research purposes.

Vacant buildings with at least 50 rooms on continuous floors can apply for temporary conversion into hotels, provided they meet safety and fire requirements.

Applicants can submit their applications for a minimum duration of eight years, provided the hotel operation period does not exceed the remaining term of the land use rights. Extension can be requested within three months before the 8-year period ends, while termination is also applicable.

These measures are designed to create a more flexible and long-term business environment, reducing uncertainties for investors and driving high-quality development in the hotel industry in Hengqin. The measures are set to be effective for two years, replacing the previous guidelines issued in April 2024.
