A total of seven universities and schools will be newly built in Guangzhou this year, according to the cities' Key Construction Projects Plan for 2023 issued by the Guangzhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission recently.
Several of them, such as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Guangzhou (HKUST Guangzhou), will enroll international students as well as students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The newly built Singapore International Management Academy (China) is expected to provide management and training services to Chinese and foreign enterprises and entrepreneurs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Here are introduction of these universities.
1. HKUST Guangzhou Phase II
Located in Nansha District, HKUST Guangzhou is a research university serving technological innovation, industrial upgrading, and high-quality development in the GBA. Its campus covers an area of 1.13 square kilometres, twice the size of the HKUST in Hong Kong. It can accommodate over 10,000 students and faculty members.
The university is being constructed in two phases: the first phase was put into use in 2022, while the second phase is under construction now.
Starting from 2023, HKUST (Guangzhou) will enroll undergraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Students need to pass the examination of "Joint Recruitment of Overseas Chinese Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in Ordinary Universities" and an interview held by the university. In addition, international students can also apply for HKUST (Guangzhou) in 2023. The enrollment information will be published on its official website (https://hkust-gz.edu.cn/).

2. Singapore International Management Academy (China)
Located in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, the Singapore International Management Academy(China) includes three education centres and one industrial base. It aims to facilitate the Knowledge City to further improve hospital management, AI digital medicine, urban operations and other innovative fields. But the Academy' China branch has not officially opened yet.
Founded in 2000, the Academy is the first educational institution for the Asia-Pacific region officially registered with the Singapore Ministry of Education. It mainly teaches in Chinese.
3. Jinan University Panyu Campus Phase II
The second phase of Jinan University Panyu Campus is committed to building a world-class pharmaceutical discipline group, an optoelectronic information discipline group, an ecological environment discipline group and a high-end think tank.

The other new universities and schools include Tsinghua University High School in GBA Phase II, Huangpu University, Guangzhou Transportation University, and Guangzhou Nanyang Polytechnic College Phase II.
