Shenzhen aims to build itself into a world-class tourist destination of global influence, according to the city’s 14th Five-Year Plan on tourism development released recently.
The plan states that by 2025, Shenzhen will build three demonstration zones for cultural tourism integration at the provincial level and above, add five more scenic spots at the 3A national level and above, and have 100 international airlines.
In terms of cultural tourism, Shenzhen will develop red tourism based on its cultural resources on reform and opening up and related cultural IP. It will also further advance the construction of the city’s 10 new cultural landmarks.
Shenzhen will build an ecological scenic resort featuring coastal leisure tourism, and launch more projects on ocean and coastal tourism as well as cruise tourism, according to the plan.
Shenzhen will help the Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory to become a national tech tourism base and cooperate with tech companies to design tourism routes featuring technology and tourism.
Shenzhen will enhance cooperation with Huizhou and Shanwei on island tourism, and deepen tourism collaboration with Hong Kong and Macao. It will open more international airlines to cities in countries along the Belt and Road.
In terms of tourism consumption, Shenzhen mulls to build a smart tourism platform and open more tourism routes. It will also issue bonuses for travel agencies that help serve tour groups composed of foreign tourists, according to the plan.
