Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan) welcomed one more high-standard biomedical industrial park on Sept 8 with the opening of Guangdong Medical Valley (Zhuhai) Medical Industry Accelerator, a major construction project of Guangdong Province.
Located in Jinding Industrial Park, the accelerator started construction in October 2020 and has floorage of 220,000 sqm (54 acres). It is expected to promote the high-end, large-scale, and intensive development of Zhuhai's medical device and biomedical industries.
Striving to be a new benchmark for industry-city integration, it is equipped with completed supporting facilities for R&D, production, and living, such as Good Manufacturing Practice factories, public laboratories, well-decorated offices, commercial areas, apartments, as well as restaurants.
High-end medical device and biomedicine enterprises that settle in the accelerator will be able to enjoy the "Max+" industrial service provided by Guangdong Medical Valley, which allows them to carry out matchmaking and cooperation activities with more than 300 enterprises that have settled in Guangdong Medical Valley, as well as over 100 enterprises and strategic investment institutions from the downstream and upstream of the industrial chain.

Xie Jiasheng, chief executive officer of Guangdong Medical Valley, said that the valley has attached great importance to its development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Area and has laid out projects in Guangzhou, Zhuhai, as well as Foshan.
Among them, the Zhuhai accelerator is the largest in floorage and is built adhering to the highest standards. Xie added that this was due to the strong industrial foundation of Zhuhai's medical device and biomedicine sectors, with the valley looking forward to expanding its overseas markets with Zhuhai's advantageous geographic locations.
The medical device and biomedicine industries have become a distinctive industrial cluster of the Hi-Tech Zone and have been maintaining a rapid growth rate of over 20 percent for seven consecutive quarters.
Hou Biao, deputy director of the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Administrative Committee, said that the zone has been devoting more efforts in technological innovation. The establishment of the accelerator will stimulate the innovation vitality of enterprises and boost high-quality industrial development in the zone, Hou added.
During the opening ceremony, Guangdong Medical Valley signed cooperation contracts with strategic cooperation partners to establish close and mutually beneficial cooperation partnerships in the areas of investment attraction, financial service, academic exchanges, sci-tech outcomes transmission, talent cultivation, as well as information sharing.
In addition, Guangdong Medical Valley set up a scholarship named after the valley at Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College in Tangjiawan, while Sun Yat-sen University is looking forward to turning the Zhuhai accelerator into a practice base for cultivating more innovative industrial talents.
