Guangzhou imports and exports soar by 25.1% from January to May

From January to May 2021, Guangzhou's imports and exports amounted to 432.98 billion yuan, with an increase of 25.1% year on year, according to Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau.

In terms of the trade markets, imports from and exports to countries along the Belt and Road routes amounted to 127.14 billion yuan, surging by 34%, while those to the RCEP members totalled 153.02 billion yuan, soaring by 18.7%.

As for import and export commodities, from January to May, the city's exports of mechanical and electronic products registered 124.82 billion yuan, up 28.1%. Exports of labor-intensive products reached 71.57 billion yuan, rising by 44.1%. The export of high-tech products was 37.11 billion yuan, with an increase of 36.7%.

Guangzhou Port has added 14 new routes in the first half year of 2021 only. By the end of June, Guangzhou Port Group has opened 179 container liner shipping routes, including 134 for foreign trade (15 to Europe and the Mediterranean, 10 to the Americas, 14 to the Middle East, India and Pakistan, 72 to Asia, 22 to Africa, and 1 to Australia). There are a total of 160 liner shipping routes at Nansha port, with 128 for foreign trade.

From January to June, the container capacity of Guangzhou Port Group stood at 11.112 million TEUs, which is an increase of 10.8% year on year. Foreign trade containers took up 4.479 million TEUs, with an increase of 11.9%.

Nansha port has exported over 4600 TEUs of cross-border e-commerce products in the year's first six months, with the annual total expected to exceed 10 thousand TEUs. Nansha's mainly export regions include the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. In 2020, there were 7800 TEUs of cross-border e-commerce products exported through the port.
